Expanding the capacities of nature

Natural Eco-System Tiles

The program is run by Impact Hub Vienna and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Oficial) and is funded by EIT Climate-KIC.

How can humans and nature live in harmony?

The expansion of our cities and agriculture has led to the significant loss in our bio-habitat. Our mission is to access unused space to greater increase the potential for green systems we can incorporate in the urban environment.

The Living Façade Tiles are designed to be home for a range of species - plants, birds, insects and bats to create stronger and more resilient ecosystems.

In return, greener cities will provide significantly better living conditions for residents and communities.

Our cities communicate who we are and what we value as a society.

What greater celebration of our shared cultural values in environmentalism, are buildings which quite literally become canvases for life?

The tiles speak both to our origins and our future…

One of the first materials mankind ever used to build with, was the ground beneath him. Clay is perhaps the most commonly used material throughout our history, which is why it is exciting to use it in a new additive manufacturing methods advancing the limitations of modernist construction.

We need to act NOW.

Our ecological systems and biodiversity have been suffering for decades from the development caused by human activity. We are witnessing the challenging outcomes of climate change and wildlife loss on a scale not before seen in human history. We need to act quickly to restore our biodiversity. We need to act NOW.
